The spring opening checklist we use at every home
Thawed hoses, sleepy sump pumps, and the one valve everyone forgets.
Spring in the valley arrives in fits: sixty degrees on Tuesday, a foot of snow on Thursday. That’s exactly when small winter problems become expensive ones.
Water first
We turn water on slowly, one zone at a time, and walk every room while it pressurizes. Hose bibs and irrigation stay off until nights are reliably above freezing.
Roof and gutters
Ice dams leave quiet damage. We check ceilings under every valley in the roof and clear gutters as soon as they’re free of ice.
The valve everyone forgets
If your home has a boiler, the fill valve can stick after a winter of sitting still. We test it on every spring visit, because a boiler without water is a very costly lesson.
