Leaving for the winter? Five things to do before you go
A short list for owners closing up the house themselves.
Most of our owners leave the closing to us, but some like to do it themselves. Here’s what we’d ask you to do before you lock the door.
- Set the heat no lower than 55°F. Lower saves very little and risks frozen pipes on the north walls.
- Shut off the water to the washing machine and any ice maker.
- Leave cabinet doors open under sinks on exterior walls.
- Unplug what doesn’t need power, but leave the sump pump, heat tape, and alarm system on.
- Tell us your dates so we can schedule the first walk-through within a week.
